液体内部含有蒸汽或蒸汽与气体混合物的空腔或气泡的形成及随后溃灭。超声场必须具有足够的强度才能引发空化。这些气泡的溃灭会在局部产生极高的压力和温度。空化是超声清洗背后的机理。

Cavitation
The formation and subsequent collapse, within a liquid, of cavities or bubbles that contain vapor or a mixture of vapor and gas. The ultrasonic field must have sufficient intensity to initiate the cavitation. The collapse of these bubbles causes locally intense pressures and temperatures. Cavitation is the mechanism behind ultrasonic cleaning.
